Talking Points

This process was rushed, with no real public input. This undermines trust in our democracy.
In a cynical attempt to subvert our democratic processes, Patti Adair and Tony DeBone were looking to gain political advantage and fix our elections at the expense of the voters.
Without public input, and ignoring best practices from good government groups, Adair and DeBone rigged the game from the beginning.
There was no community involvement and no public input before the map drawing process.
The right-wing members of the DMAC tried to further subvert democracy by ending the opportunity for input a week early before presenting the map to county commissioners.
This process was rigged from the start. On a committee of 7, there were only 2 women, no people of color, and only 1 Democrat.
With a member of the DMAC making campaign contributions to a county commissioner, this process looks corrupt. Former Republican County Commissioner Phil Henderson, a DMAC member, donated to sitting commissioner Tony DeBone’s campaign during the map drawing process. This looks dirty.

In a county that has voted Democratic in the last two presidential elections, and has a Democrat over Republican over-all registration advantage, the proposed map gives an advantage to Republicans in 3 out of 5 districts. This is a gerrymander.
Patti Adair and Tony DeBone have taken a page out of the MAGA playbook and are looking to steal our elections. Nationwide, at the direction of Trump, the far right has chosen to weaponize redistricting in places like Texas to disenfranchise and take the voices away from voters. Now Patti Adair and Tony DeBone are looking to do the same thing in Deschutes County. Voters should choose their politicians, not the other way around.
In a time when our democratic institutions are under assault, we need to protect our democracy here at home.

Patti Adair and Tony DeBone want to permanently secure their far-right majority so they can continue to serve their conservative donors at the expense of the people of Deschutes County.
Their Objectives Include:
Push the MAGA agenda locally. They’ve already cut DEI programming and pushed for the courts to capitulate to ICE.
Allow greedy developers to build resorts in our natural spaces at the expense of our community.
